The LEED Green Associate v5 exam, explained

Format and scoring

Every question is multiple choice with a single correct answer. Of the 100 questions, approximately 85 are scored; the rest are unscored pilot questions being calibrated for future exams. Your score is scaled to a band of 125 to 200, and 170 passes. There are no eligibility requirements: anyone can sit the Green Associate exam.

The eight knowledge domains

The scored questions are distributed across eight knowledge domains. This platform builds one module per domain and weights its practice questions the same way the exam does.

LEED Process and Energy and Atmosphere together carry 30 of the 85 scored questions, more than a third of your score. Study time should be weighted accordingly, which is why LEED Process is this platform's free module.

Which LEED version does the exam test?

LEED v5, ratified in March 2025, is the current standard. The v4 Green Associate exam retired on April 26, 2026, so every candidate now studies v5. The source of record for every threshold and point value on this platform is the LEED v5 BD+C Rating System, February 2026 edition, published by USGBC.
